Is Blue Beetle a part of the DC Universe ?

Ever since Blue Beetle hit theaters, the question on everybody's mind has been: Where does Jaime Reyes fit into this whole DC movie mess? The DCEU is gone; James Gunn is busy building his new DC Universe, the DCU, and everybody's asking: Is Blue Beetle part of this new plan or just a leftover from the old tangled timeline?

The bottom line is that Blue Beetle is officially part of the DCU.

Blue Beetle: The first character of the new DCU

What does that mean? James Gunn clarified, for one thing, that this is not the first movie of the DCU, but Jaime Reyes is getting ready to be the first character.

Basically, the first film with the DCU label will be Superman, coming in 2025. Jamie is the first hero actually introduced in Gunn's rebooted universe.

Pretty wild, right? Even though Blue Beetle was made in that weird “is this DCEU or not” period, Jaime’s story counts in this new era. Gunn’s approach is simple: keep what works, ditch what doesn’t, and keep things clear.

Why does Blue Beetle fit the new direction?

Honestly, this project had a head start. The movie stands alone-no old DCEU villains, no complicated multiverse tricks, no random Batfleck cameos or anything. So Jaime jumps into the DCU with no baggage. Fresh start. His story, his family, the whole Scarab thing-it all fits, and there's no confusing continuity to worry about.

Will we see Blue Beetle again? Warner Bros. hasn't confirmed a sequel-which isn't a surprise-but let's be serious, the odds are pretty good. Gunn has been praising both Jaime and Xolo Maridueña's performance, so it's not just empty talk. Expect Jaime to show up in:

  • Some team-up movie with the new generation of heroes

  • Maybe a couple of DCU shows a little later

  • A story about the alien origins of Scarab

Maybe even a cameo in Superman or whatever else “Gods & Monsters” brings. Nothing's in stone just yet, but one thing is certain: Blue Beetle isn't going anywhere.

What this means for fans

It means good news: Jaime Reyes is not being thrown aside; he's continuing, rather than being erased or rebooted away. Honestly, Blue Beetle-what with its sense of humour, heart, family, and sci-fi action-is genuinely one of the freshest things DC currently has. Continuity in a universe that reboots itself every five minutes is a small miracle.
